Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Wisdom teeth are molars that erupt between the ages of 17-25. As is known, molars are located at the very back of the jaw. Wisdom molars, a total of four in the lower and upper jaws, cannot adapt to the jaw structure in many people and cause severe pain. In cases where it causes health problems such as abscess and inflammation, wisdom teeth should be extracted. Wisdom teeth are removed surgically in some cases.

Since the other permanent teeth that are placed cover most of the jaw, the wisdom teeth that erupt long after them cannot find enough space to settle. Wisdom teeth can damage neighboring teeth and disrupt the jaw structure. In this case, the nearest dentist should be consulted to decide what to do.

On the other hand, it would be wrong to say that every wisdom tooth must be extracted. Some people's wisdom teeth adapt to the jaw structure and do not cause any problems. In these individuals, wisdom teeth do not need to be extracted.

Symptoms of Wisdom Tooth

When the wisdom teeth come out without any problems, you would not even notice them. Unfortunately, that does not happen a lot. So, how do you know if you've had wisdom teeth removed? You are teething wisdom teeth if you have these symptoms:

-Severe headache,

-Jaw and earache,

-Toothache,

-Bad breath,

-Difficulty when chewing,

-Lymph node swelling.

Wisdom Tooth Surgery

X-rays are needed to diagnose patients with wisdom tooth symptoms. Buried tooth roots and angles can be examined in this way. Impacted wisdom teeth often bring health problems such as infections and cysts. In such cases, the surgical operation becomes a necessity.

If the wisdom teeth are completely in the gingiva and their roots are embedded in the jawbone, it is very difficult to remove them in one piece. Instead, the dentist pulls the tooth into several pieces. If wisdom teeth are to be surgically removed, local anesthesia is used, and an incision is made in the gingiva. The operation takes 1-2 hours, depending on the degree of difficulty. Complications such as pain, swelling, and bruising may occur after the operation. You may expect intense pain in the first two days. Most patients report that the toothache is completely gone within ten days. Some patients are likely to take longer to heal. You can apply ice regularly on the first day after the operation to speed up the healing process. Ice removes swelling and edema, and it also reduces bruises on the gums.

Wisdom teeth tend to decay rapidly. If you have wisdom teeth symptoms, you can come to our clinic and be examined.
